Cites that customers want sportier hatchbacks, not sedans.
Autocar India reports that the Maruti Dzire will not have an RS variant with a 1.0L Boosterjet engine in its lifecycle, citing that customers want sportier hatchbacks and not sedans.
The Boosterjet is Maruti’s first turbocharged petrol engine that debuted in the Baleno RS, which was launched for sale in March. The concept of performance-spec products with turbocharged engines is still new to the brand. Maruti is selling 800-1,000 units of the Baleno RS per month, which is a satisfying figure for Maruti, it is reported.
The new Dzire is only available with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder VVT petrol engine or 1.3-litre four-cylinder DDiS turbodiesel engine. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AGS (AMT), which can return a fuel mileage of 22 km/l (petrol) and 28.40 km/l (diesel).
While the Dzire may not get the Boosterjet unit, the next-gen Swift which shares the platform and innards with the Dzire could have an RS variant with the 1.0L turbo motor. The Boosterjet is available in the model sold in Europe and Japan, which produces 110 hp and 170 Nm.
