Its introduction now depends on the cost of the high voltage powertrain technology.
At a Mahindra Electric press conference held yesterday, the company has expressed interest in launching high-end electric vehicles in India, one of which could be the Mahindra XUV Aero coupè.
Speaking about the Aero's current status, Dr Pawan Kumar Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra was quoted saying:
That (electric Mahindra XUV Aero) is one of the options that we are investigating right now. Our plans for bringing out the Aero also depends on the cost of the high voltage powertrain technology.
There are no solid technical details yet on the Mahindra XUV Aero electric, but it is reported to come equipped with a 380V system powered by a Lithium-based battery pack. M&M will be targeting an electric range of 300 km - 400 km and lower charging times.
However, as Dr Goenka said, its introduction depends on the cost of the high voltage powertrain technology. Competitive pricing, good infrastructure for EVs and schemes from the government will likely convince car buyers to switch to electric power and help the ambitious government reach its goal of making the country a 100 percent electric vehicle nation by 2030.

In contrast, the XUV Aero concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 had a tuned mHawk turbodiesel engine with a next gen turbocharger, producing 210 hp. It also had an advanced combustion system and low-pressure EGR for better refinement and was claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h in under 6 seconds.
