The VW Tiguan was previously reported to hit the Indian market in May 2017. Now, a report from The Economic Times says that Volkswagen India will launch the compact SUV in the first week of May 2017.
Locally introduced at Auto Expo 2016, the VW Tiguan is now in its second generation and arriving in India for the first time. The compact SUV is based on the Volkswagen Group's modular MQB platform and will debut the platform for the Volkswagen brand in India. It measures 4,486 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width and 2,095 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,677 mm. The 5-seat SUV has 615 luggage space which increases to 1,655 litres with the rear seats down.
Volkswagen India has confirmed that it will offer the VW Tiguan with the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine at launch. This engine is said to develop 177 hp and 350 Nm of torque, and it will send power to the wheels via the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and distribute between them via the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.

The VW Tiguan is sourced from Wolfsburg, Germany and assembly at the Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra started in mid-March 2017. The VW Tiguan competes with the Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass class-wise, but it is still expected to have a premium pricing of between INR 25-30 lakh (ex-showroom).
