Yamaha has not officially confirmed the motorcycle.
Adventure Riding Magazine reports that Yamaha is working on an off-road centric adventure motorcycle with a triple cylinder 850 cc engine. Going by Yamaha’s nomenclature pattern, the bike, if it becomes a reality, could be the Yamaha XT900 Super Tenere.
The powertrain is expected to be borrowed from the naked roadster Yamaha MT09 which displaces 847 cc and is a liquid cooled, DOHC, fuel injected unit. Coupled to a 6-speed gearbox the engine is capable of producing 115 PS of maximum power at 10,000 rpm and 87.5 Nm of peak torque at 8,500 rpm.

This engine also finds use in the Yamaha Tracer 900 which is marketed as a tourer. The off-roader Yamaha XT900 Super Tenere can gain a frame which can be based on the lightweight and compact CF aluminium die-cast frame from the Tracer. The bike will also get features like an assist and slipper clutch, large fuel tank and possibly LED headlamps.
The upcoming Yamaha off-road centric adventure motorcycle will be competing against the likes of Triumph Tiger and BMW GS series motorcycles.
