The new Compass is Jeep’s first locally manufactured product.
FCA India has revealed that the Jeep Compass SUV will be unveiled to the press on April 12. It is Jeep’s first locally manufactured product, which will roll out of the FCA-Tata JV plant in Ranjangaon. Jeep India will be tasked exclusively with the manufacture of the RHD specification.
No other details have been divulged other than the date of the unveiling. It will be more or less identical to the model current sold in Brazil, which measures 4,410 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width and 1,640 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,630 mm. The exterior of top-end grades could come equipped with projector-beam headlamps, LED signature lights, LED signature tail lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, power liftgate, and a panoramic glass roof.
Spyshots of Jeep Compass prototypes testing in India revealed an all black interior contrasted by silver elements. Some of the equipment we can expect are a 7.0-inch full colour LED instrument cluster, Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking camera, powered driver seat, auto-dimming IRVM, although the 9-speaker BeatsAudio Premium II audio system with a 12-channel amplifier and a subwoofer may not make the cut.
For the Indian market, the Compass could offer a 1.4-litre turbocharged MultiAir petrol engine and 2.0-litre Multijet II turbodiesel engine. Transmission options include a 6-speed dual clutch transmission for the former and a 9-speed automatic transmission for the latter. The Jeep Active Drive full-time four-wheel drive system could be exclusive to the diesel variant.
