Will likely go on sale in Europe in H2 2017.

After months of camouflaged test mule sightings, the sixth generation VW Polo was finally revealed in undisguised spy shots last week. Based on the details from these spy shots, IAB’s automotive illustrator Shoeb Kalania has created a near-production rendering of the 2017 VW Polo.

2017 VW Polo front rendering
The sixth generation VW Polo will ride on the new MQB A0 platform.

The 2017 VW Polo will feature an evolutionary design and have proportions similar to the current model’s. The all-new Polo gets new design headlamps inspired by those of the facelifted Golf, redesigned grille layout, reshaped fog lamps, redesigned bumpers and new design tail lamps. The latest spy shots suggest that the European supermini has grown in length to offer more space for the rear passengers.

The 2017 VW Polo will have a completely new cabin with a soft-touch dashboard, new trim elements, a digital instrument cluster, new generation touchscreen infotainment systems and the latest parking system, as well as controls and front seats plucked from the 2017 VW Golf.

The sixth generation VW Polo will ride on the new MQB A0 platform that debuted in the fifth generation Seat Ibiza. The new platform should make the car lighter and more rigid, and offer it greater compliance for alternative powertrains. Engine options should include 1.0-litre TSI petrol, 1.0-litre TSI BlueMotion petrol, 1.5-litre TSI Evo and 1.6-litre TDI diesel. Additionally, the 1.0-litre TSI petrol model may have a CNG-compatible variant, while the GTI variant could pack a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine.

VW Polo Sound profile
Reports say that Volkswagen will make the next-gen VW Polo hatchback only in 5-door form. Pictured is the current model.

The Euro-spec 2017 VW Polo’s production will commence at the Navarra factory in Spain in June 2017. With the recently formed Tata Motors-Volkswagen Group joint venture, Volkswagen India may decide not to launch any MQB A0 platform-based models now that it could get access to the Indian alliance partner’s AMP platform to make relatively cheaper cars.
