Tenth-gen Honda Civic could be launched in India - Report

The Civic was discontinued in India in 2012.

Speaking to Economic Times recently, Honda Cars India President & CEO Yoichiro Ueno hinted that the tenth generation Honda Civic could be launched in the country.

The latest Honda Civic, internally referred to by the codename 'Honda 2SV', sits on an all-new front-wheel drive modular platform that serves as the basis for the all-new Honda CR-V. The previous-gen model was based on different platforms in Europe and the U.S., but the new, but the tenth-gen model sits on the same platform globally.

The ASEAN-spec 2017 Honda Civic, which should be the one close the Indian-spec version, measures 4,630 mm in length, 1,799 mm in width and 1,416 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. In Malaysia, it's offered with the 1.8-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 141 PS and 174 Nm of torque and the 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 173 PS and 220 Nm of torque. It remains to be seen if the 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine is brought to India with the Civic. A continuously variable transmission could be standard.

LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED front fog lights, remote engine start, full-colour LCD instrument panel, 8-way power adjustable driver seat, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, 8-speaker sound system, six airbags, LaneWatch blind-spot camera and multiangle rearview camera are the equipment highlights of the 2017 Honda Civic sedan.

The ASEAN-spec Honda Civic is offered with 141 PS 1.8-litre i-VTEC and 173 PS 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo petrol engines.

If launched, the Honda Civic will probably be imported in CKD form from Thailand and be assembled in Tapukara, Rajasthan or Greater Noida, U.P.
