Tamo, Tata Motors' new performance sub-brand, will launch a new sports car concept named 'Tamo Futuro' at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Just weeks ahead of the car's debut at the Swiss show, the company has released a new teaser of the car.
The Tamo Futuro is, reports say, a mid-engined sports car like the Opel Roadster, Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice, and the new teaser image strengthens the speculation. The image shows a little portion of the car's silhouette and its fuel cap. The Tamo Futuro will reportedly sit on the Tata X1 platform and pack the small 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol engine under the hood.
The 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol engine churns out 90 PS in the Tata Bolt and Tata Zest, but for the Tamo Futuro, the company will tune it up to deliver more than 180 hp. Despite nearly double the power, the figure may not seem enough for calling the vehicle a mid-engined sports car, but the potentially impressive power-to-weight ratio due the chassis construction is developed by Marcello Gandini, the famed Italian car designer who penned iconic cars like the Lamborghini Miura and Lamborghini Countach among many others, is reportedly man behind the Futuro's chassis construction.
The Tamo Futuro, although just a halo car, may inspire the company to make performance variants of its volume cars in the future. Priced at around INR 25 lakh, it would create a segment of its own below the DC Avanti. The production model is expected to go on sale in India by mid-2018.
