‘Maruti Suzuki’ lettering & variant badges dropped from the Maruti Ciaz

Aravind Jayachandran, I'm a huge petrolhead, an automobile engineer, a massive fan of Ferrari, and loves collecting die-cast models for inspiration.

Although a facelifted Maruti Ciaz has not been spied yet, GaadiWaadi snapped pictures of several MY2017 Maruti Ciaz units at a dealer stockyard as none of them feature the Maruti Suzuki lettering and variant badges.

The latest stock of Ciaz units does not feature the Maruti Suzuki lettering and variant badges.

The diesel variant still keep the SHVS badge and ‘Ciaz’ nameplates, while the petrol variant only has the latter. It’s not really going to affect anything, as Maruti Suzuki is one of the most recognised automotive brands in India. This change comes ahead of the Ciaz facelift’s launch, which is reported to take place this April.

Details on the facelifted Ciaz are currently scarce. So far, we know that it will be sold through the NEXA channel this time, so expect more equipment and a grander look. The Ciaz diesel is expected to continue offering the 1.3L 4-cyl turbodiesel DDiS engine with SHVS, while the petrol variant is rumoured to pack a new naturally aspirated 1.5-litre M15 engine that is expected to output around 100 hp.

Up until now, the Ciaz’s rear end had four badges.

Maruti recently announced that sales of the SHVS models (Ciaz and Ertiga) in India has reached 1,00,000 units. The Ciaz has also managed to overtake the Honda City to become the best-selling mid-size sedan from a mass-market manufacturer.
