Volkswagen's baby SUV to take on the Toyota C-HR.

Volkswagen unveiled the Volkswagen T-Cross Breeze concept at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, a convertible SUV in the VW Polo class. CARPLACE reader Kleber Pinho da Silva has created renderings with design cues borrowed from the latest VW Tiguan to preview the concept's production version.

The VW T-Cross Breeze concept's production version will be a sub-compact SUV in the VW Polo class.

The VW T-Cross Breeze concept will evolve into a production model. Announcing at the concept in Geneva last year, Dr Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said:

At the moment the T-Cross Breeze is purely a concept, but we can well imagine putting such a convertible on the market as a production model.

Since Dr Diess' comment, there have been multiple reports claiming a production model is planned.

The VW T-Cross Breeze concept measures 4,133 mm in length, 1,798 mm in width and 1,563 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,565 mm. It is powered by a 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine good for 110 PS and 175 Nm of torque. The production version, which is already testing on the roads, will be underpinned by the same platform as the next-gen VW Polo - MQB A0.

The VW T-Cross is said to have a unique design with minimal resemblance to the current Volkswagen models. It will likely come with engine displacements ranging from 1.0- to 1.6-litre, the same units which power other MQB A0 platform models, including the fifth-gen Seat Ibiza. The new sub-compact SUV will arrive after the next-gen VW Polo, possibly by the end of 2018.
