Volkswagen of America has announced that the VW Atlas' production has commenced in the USA. The new mid-size SUV is built alongside the Passat in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Built on the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform, the VW Atlas measures 5,037 mm in length, 1,979 mm in width and 1,768 mm in height. It competes with the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer and the like.
The U.S.-spec version will be available the 175 kW (238 PS) 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder and the 206 kW (280 PS) 3.6-litre VR6 naturally aspirated V6 gasoline engines, both of which will be paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. The VR6 engine model will be available in front wheel drive and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The driver can select from four drive modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Custom.
LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, 12.3-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit (Active Information Display) digital instrument cluster, 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink and 480-watt, 12-speaker Fender Premium Audio System form the equipment highlights of the VW Atlas.

The VW Atlas will be sold as the VW Teramont in China. Additionally, it could be launched in Russia and the Middle East among other possible markets. India, though, is out of question.
