Toyota Vios (Yaris sedan) also tipped to launch in India.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Akito Tachibana, managing director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor has confirmed that the company will introduce the Toyota Yaris hatchback in India. Its sedan sibling, the Toyota Vios, is also tipped to launch.
The Vios-based Yaris hatchback is sold in markets like the Middle East, ASEAN and South America, which measures 4,115 mm long, 1,700 mm wide and 1,800 tall. It will be the only hatchback from a mass-market manufacturer in India that measures over 4 meters, so Toyota could lure customers by banking on its interior space and good list of features.
The Yaris hatchback is available with a choice between a 1.3L 4-cyl petrol engine with 98 hp and 12.8 Nm of torque and a 1.5L 4-cyl petrol engine with 105 hp and 14.3 kg.m of peak torque. For the Indian market, Toyota could offer the option of the 1.4L D-4D 4-cyl diesel engine, sourced from the Toyota Etios and Corolla Altis.

Toyota could skip the current Yaris/Vios as they were launched in the early part of the decade, and wait for the next-gen model which is expected to launch in 2018, before bringing the nameplates to India.
