KTM 790 Duke prototype featured in a new promo video

KTM’s new scalpel flaunts surgical precision in a new promotional video.

KTM had a portfolio gap between the single cylinder 690 Duke and the 1290 Super Duke, and the 790 Duke is just the tool they need to plug it. While most prototypes in Auto Shows are products which are a far cry from production and will probably not be a working unit, KTM attempts to be different. If the 790 Duke prototype caught your attention with an ethereal look surrounded by smoke, this new video is set to take things further ahead.

The prototype was less in terms of showcasing the technical possibilities and more of the design capabilities. The idea was to create a light, nimble motorcycle which will flaunt really precise handling capabilities. The video emphasises on that, showing off the rider following a particular racing line and not budging for the whole video.

KTM claims that despite being a parallel twin, the bike feels like a V-twin. The parallel twin means fewer camshafts and a single cylinder block. That not only helps in keeping the mill compact but also cuts cost. The Scalpel, as what KTM calls the 790 Duke prototype, gets a 3D printed triple clamp in the front. Parts of the exhaust system have also been made using the new technology. Of course, neither will enter production.

The production version of the 790 Duke is expected to be unveiled at EICMA next year with the bikes heading to dealerships in early 2018.
