BMW Motorrad Thailand has showcased the BMW S1000RR, BMW S1000R and BMW S1000XR at the ongoing Thai Motor Expo.
The revolutionary BMW S1000RR focused purely on performance. It is powered by a liquid cooled 999 cc inline four cylinder mill producing 198.5 PS of maximum power at 12,500 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 10,500 rpm. The BMW S1000RR gets Dynamic Traction Control, three riding modes (rain, sport and race) and Dynamic Damping Control. Optional features include Pro shift assistance and forged aluminium wheels. The gearbox is a 6-speed unit.
The BMW S1000RR is suspended by 46 mm upside down forks with compression and rebound damping adjustable and adjustable preload in the front and a mono shock in the rear allowing similar levels of adjustment. Disengageable BMW Motorrad Race ABS is standard.
In its naked roadster form, the BMW S1000R is a stripped down version of the faired monster. The same 999 cc DOHC four pot mill produces a reduced maximum power output of 164.5 PS at 11,000 rpm and a slightly increased 114 Nm of peak torque at 9,250 rpm. Features like Dynamic Traction Control, launch control and pit lane limiter are standard.
Riding modes are down to two (road and rain) and the bike gets a 6 speed transmission. In place of clip-ons, it gets a conventional handlebar.
The third member of the family is the BMW S1000XR which combines sports, touring and adventure. The 999 cc engine churns out the same output as the naked roadster. Riding modes remain the same (rain and road) while electronics include Dynamic Traction Control, Automatic Stability Control. The wheelbase is 109 mm longer than the faired S1000RR.
