Will be a CBU import that is expected to cost around INR 35 lakh (ex-showroom).
According to CarandBike, Nissan India will launch the Leaf electric vehicle in 2018. It will be a CBU import that is estimated to cost around INR 35 lakh (ex-showroom).
The model arriving in India would have to be the next gen Nissan Leaf that is tipped to make its world debut in 2018. Given that the Indian market has a weak infrastructure for electric vehicles, the Leaf will be a niche with no competition.
The next gen Leaf is reported to house a 60 kWh Li-Ion battery, which is twice the capacity offered by the current Leaf. While the current Leaf is only capable of a 172 km driving range, the next gen model is expected to offer over 300 km.
For the next generation, Nissan is reported to be working with carbon fiber reinforced plastic to reduce the body weight to offset the weight of its battery pack. It is also expected to host an upgraded system of autonomous driving, including radar-guided driving systems with 360 degree laser scanning.
