Will arrive in showrooms in early 2017.
Motor Octane reports that the upcoming Maruti Ignis could get the SHVS mild-hybrid system, which improves fuel efficiency and allows Maruti to take advantage of the central government's FAME tax incentive (starting at INR 13,000).
Maruti confirmed that they were aggressively working on low cost next generation hybrid tech for its future products, which adds some weight to the report's claim, but Maruti's engineering boss CV Raman told IAB that there was no urgent need for SHVS on smaller Marutis.
If the SHVS is offered on the Maruti Ignis, it will be similar to the Euro-spec and JDM models, where both offer the micro-hybrid in the 1.25L petrol variant. For the India-spec model, the Ignis will come with 1.2L petrol and 1.3L DDiS variants.
The Ignis will be Maruti's second product to ride on the new lightweight platform, first being the Maruti Baleno. The international-spec model measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660-1,690 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height, has a wheelbase of 2,435 mm and a ground clearance of 180 mm.
