Will be pitched as a full-size luxury MPV loaded to the gills with tech.
Overdrive reports that Toyota Kirloskar Motor is considering an Indian launch of the Toyota Alphard MPV, although a tentative timeline has not been revealed.
If it turns out to be true, this would be an interesting move from Toyota, given the likely price-tag that the Alphard would carry when launched in India. The report estimates that it could be priced around INR 50 Lakhs, slotting it above European luxury SUVs and sedans that car buyers generally opt for.
However, Toyota believes that the Indian market is open to the prospect of a luxury full-size MPV, and have the sales figures of the top-end Innova Crysta (which sells for INR 26 lakhs, on-road Mumbai) to back up that belief. The Alphard will bank on its bold looks, spacious and luxurious cabin, long list of features and its hybrid powertrain to woo prospective buyers.

Speaking of hybrid powertrain, it borrows the 2AR-FXE 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine combined with an E-CVT gearbox from the Toyota Camry Hybrid. The Indonesian-spec Alphard Hybrid produces 152 PS and 21 kgm of peak torque.
