Significantly upgraded Duramax engine arriving with MY2017 update in the USA.
The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD diesel and the 2017 GMC Sierra HD diesel's engine specifications for the US market have leaked online in GM's 2017 information guide that was published prematurely on GM Powertrain's website. The document has since been offline, but IAB has managed to get the details.
The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD and the 2016 GMC Sierra HD's 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine develops 397 hp at 3,000 rpm and 765 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,600 rpm. The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD and 2017 GMC Sierra HD's 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine has been enhanced to develop 445 hp (332 kW) at 2,800 rpm and 910 lb.-ft. (1,234 Nm) at 1,600 Nm of torque.
The extra 48 hp and 145 lb.-ft. (196.59 Nm) of torque should bring significant driving improvements and enhance the towing capability. The maximum power is available at a lower engine speed now. Along with other possible enhancements, the new intake system GM will introduce on the 2017 heavy duty trucks is believed to be the factor that has helped increasing the power and torque considerably.

The L5P 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine will be produced in Moraine, Ohio and installed in all cab styles of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD and the 2017 GMC Sierra HD.
