Recent spyshots of the new 5 Series have revealed an exterior that is heavily influenced by the current 7 Series. It's an evolutionary step up from the outgoing model, retaining a certain familiarity yet looking contemporary at the same time. It is expected to be slightly longer and wider than the outgoing model for a more commanding presence.
The new 5 Series will be based on the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) sourced from the 7 Series. It is reported to be 100 kg lighter than the outgoing model, thanks to the intensive use of aluminum and other lightweight materials. Reports suggest that BMW will not incorporate Carbon Core in the body construction due to costs.

The range-topping M550i will pack a 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 engine.
