2016 Proton Saga spied undisguised; launches this year – Malaysia
Aravind Jayachandran, I'm a huge petrolhead, an automobile engineer, a massive fan of Ferrari, and loves collecting die-cast models for inspiration.
Only engine option is a 1.3L VVT engine from Proton Iriz.
The next generation 2016 Proton Saga has been spied undisguised, revealing the changes made to its exterior. It is expected to go on sale in Malaysia in the coming weeks and is the third sedan to launch this year, following the Proton Perdana and Proton Persona.
The model spotted appears to be the top-end grade, with features such as foglamps and body coloured ORVM caps with indicators. Otherwise, the new Saga has a sleeker twin-slat chrome grille design, redesigned front bumper, new headlamps and a re-profiled hood, trapezoidal wraparound taillamps connected by a chrome bar and a new bumper design.
Under the hood, the Proton Saga will source the 1.3-litre VVT engine from the Proton Iriz, which produces 70 kW and 120 Nm of peak torque. It can be had with a 5-speed manual gearbox or CVT.
The new Proton Saga will be positioned in the A-Segment so to prevent cannibalizing sales of the Proton Persona. Expect it to be priced between RM 35,000 and RM 45,000. Its main rival will be the newly launched Perodua Bezza sedan.
