Company is planning to increase production to meet rising demand.
Tata Motors VP sales, passenger vehicles business, Mr. SN Burman, has confirmed that the company received over 40,000 bookings for the Tata Tiago since market launch. Waiting period for a new customer has now increased to three months.
The company registered a 32 percent growth in sales in July year-on-year in the car segment, as compared to the industry growth rate of 7 percent. The rise in sales is driven by the demand of the Tata Tiago and Tata Zest, Mr. Burman said. In July, Tata sold 5114 units of Tiago, which is their best figure of the month.
A majority of the total bookings are for the petrol variant, which is powered by an all new 1.2-liter three-cylinder Revotron engine with 85 PS (83.80 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm at 3,500 rpm. A diesel variant is also available, which packs a 1.05-liter three-cylinder Revotorq unit to make 70 PS (69.01 hp) at 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm at 1,800-3,000 rpm. Both are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

The long waiting period is likely for the top-end variants of the Tiago, which are favored by buyers for their higher equipment list, while the base XB variant, which gets only an AC and power steering, has a much lesser waiting period.
