Will pack an updated version of the 1.5 TDI engine.
The VW Ameo diesel variant has been spied testing in Pune, ahead of an expected launch during the festive season. Currently, the Ameo is only available in its petrol variant, which is priced between INR 5.13-6.91 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai).
For the diesel variant, VW will equip an updated version of the 1.5 TDI unit, which outputs 108 bhp. Along with a 5 speed manual, VW has confirmed that a 7-speed DSG is optional in the Ameo diesel. The petrol variant packs a smaller 1.2L MPI three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 75 PS (73.94 hp) at 5,400 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. Unlike the diesel variant, it's only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Apart from the TDI badge on the boot, rest of the Ameo diesel variant will be identical to the petrol variant currently sold. As standard from Trendline (base grade), the Ameo features body-coloured bumpers, body-coloured door handles, body-coloured door mirrors with integrated turn indicators, single-folding rear seat backrest, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, ABS and dual-front airbags.
