Diesel variant expected to launch in the festive season.
VW India announced today that it has started deliveries of the VW Ameo compact sedan, its first sub-4 meter sedan. VW India will now deliver the petrol variants of the Ameo, but the diesel Ameo is expected to launch towards the festive season period.
The VW Ameo petrol is powered by the 1.2-liter three-cylinder MPI engine capable of 75 PS and 110 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The ARAI-rated fuel consumption of the Ameo petrol is 17.83 km/l.
When launched, the VW Ameo diesel will use the 1.5-liter four-cylinder TDI diesel engine with a new turbocharger. The engine is expected to output 108 PS, and will be available with 5-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic transmissions, VW India confirmed.
All variants of the VW Ameo get ABS and dual front airbags as standard. The top-end Highline variant gets alloy wheels, cornering lights, automatic wipers, automatic dimming internal rear-view mirror, a touchscreen MirrorLink entertainment system with rear parking camera, Bluetooth, steering-mounted controls, cruise control and power-folding wing mirrors.
The VW Ameo is priced at INR 5.04-7.05 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi. It rivals the Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Figo Aspire.
