Expected to arrive in 2018.
TopSpeed has created a rendering of the next generation BMW 3 Series sedan, based on spyshots and reports. Codenamed G20, it's expected to arrive in showrooms in 2018.
The next gen BMW 3 Series is expected to feature a sharper and more dynamic design than the current model, as seen in the rendering. It will be an evolutionary step-up from the current model, and borrow cues from the current 7 Series as well as the next BMW X3. The 3 Series could slightly grow in size to better differentiate from the upcoming BMW 1 Series sedan.
The 2018 BMW 3 Series will be the least-expensive product from BMW to ride on the company's new CLAR RWD platform with Carbon Core, which underpins the latest BMW 7 Series and the 2017 BMW 5 Series. With the integration of carbon fiber and other lightweight materials, the next gen 3 Series will be over 50 kg lighter than the current model, so as to compete against the aluminum-intensive Jaguar XE.

Engine lineup could be sourced from BMW’s new B-family range, which includes a 1.5-liter three cylinder turbo, 2.0-liter four cylinder petrol and diesel lineup and a range-topping M340i variant with a 3.0-liter inline six engine. An 8-speed automatic could be standard across the range, while a 6-speed manual may continue being offered in base variants.
