Hyundai India is prepping to launch the next generation 2016 Hyundai Elantra this year, with reports narrowing it down to a date in September. Here are five things we know about Hyundai's latest executive sedan.
1. Dimensions and design
The new Elantra measures 4,610 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width and 1,450 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, making it 20 mm longer and 25 mm wider than the outgoing model.
The exterior of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra is influenced by Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, and is an evolution of the previous design. The India-spec Elantra will get sleek projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, large hexagonal grille with chrome inserts, 16-inch alloy rims, LED taillights, shark fin antenna and parking sensors
2. Engine options
According to various reports, the India-spec 2016 Hyundai Elantra will offer an option between a 2.0-liter MPI four-cylinder petrol engine with 149 PS (146.90 hp)/183 Nm of torque and a 1.6-litre four-cylinder CRDi VGT diesel engine that produces 136 PS (134.09 hp) and 306 Nm of torque. Transmission options are reported to be 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes.
3. Features expected
The next gen Elantra is likely to be a feature-packed sedan, considering the segment it's competing in. It will feature a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that could offer Android Auto and Apple Carplay support, satellite navigation, automatic climate control, cruise control, rain sensing wipers and start/stop button.
4. Market Launch
A report from NDTV's Car and Bike stated that the 2016 Hyundai Elantra will see its Indian market launch in the first week of September 2016. Currently, it's undergoing testing at various cities in India.
5. Expected price
Hyundai India will assemble the 2016 Hyundai Elantra with CKD kits, and could be priced between INR 15-18 Lakhs for the petrol variant and INR 16-20 Lakhs for diesel (ex-showroom)
