The CLAR platform-based seventh-gen BMW 5 Series (codename: BMW G30) is expected to have its public debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in September. Alongside the new generation BMW 5 Series, BMW is also developing and road testing its high-performance M variant. The latter is more than a year away from its first official appearance.
According to GermanCarForum member and BMW insider SCOTT27, the next-gen 5 Series saloon will be launched in Europe before the end of 2016 and in the USA in Q1 2017. Tailing the saloon, will be its Touring (estate) version which will arrive in Europe in Q1 2017.
In Q2 2017, BMW will introduce the next-gen BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo and a concept version of the next-gen BMW M5, SCOTT27 writers. The latter's production version will debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2017) and go on sale in Europe towards the end of 2017 followed by the U.S. market in early 2018.

The 2018 BMW M5 is said to be powered by an updated version of current BWM M5's 4.4-litre M TwinPower Turbo twin-turbo V8 petrol engine. This engine already produces 600 bhp (441 kW) and 700 Nm of torque in the limited-edition M5 30 Jahre which was launched to celebrate the M5's 30th anniversary. The biturbo engine will likely be married to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission as standard, with no option for a stick this time. The rear-biased next-gen M5 will be the first to get an all-wheel drive system.
