Autocar India reports that Datsun has fast-tracked the launch of the Datsun GO Cross to 2017.

Unveiled in conceptual form at the Auto Expo 2016, the report states that Datsun had received a good response from the public for the crossover, so much so that they decided to fast-track its launch. To be based on the Datsun GO+ MPV, Datsun hopes to price it competitively, whilst offering a new ‘connected car’ interior; similar to the Renault Kwid's success formula.

Datsun is also reportedly working on further reducing the cost of the Nissan-sourced V-Platform down by ‘industrializing’ many of the components assembled in India as well as lowering the costs of sub-assemblies and raw materials. Datsun hopes to launch the GO Cross at a starting price of INR 4.4-4.6 lakh, which is quite an aggressive target given the features expected in the GO Cross.

For instance, features such as black plastic body cladding, larger tires, silver skid plates, roof rails that were all seen in the concept could be expensive to equip in the production-spec GO Cross. Also, since it's based on the Datsun GO+ which is 3,995 mm long, Datsun will only have an extra four millimeters to play with in order to benefit from the tax reductions of a sub-4m product, which is vital to keep the price competitive.
