At the 2016 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, Stefan Schaller, the president and CEO of BMW Motorrad, confirmed that the brand will start its two-wheeler operations in India in October 2016.
Though the BMW Motorrad range is currently present in India as CBUs, the locally-made BMW G310R is expected to launch only in October. BMW Motorrad is also expected to increase the number of outlets prior to the launch of the G310R, through which it expects the most volumes.
At present, BMW Motorrad is represented through two distributors – Deutsche Motoren for Delhi and NCR region and Navnit Motors for the rest of India.
At its heart is an all-new 313 cc backward-tilted single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with DOHC, that produces 34 hp (25 kW) at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm at 7,500 rpm mated to a 6-speed transmission. Stopping power comes from a 300 mm front disc brake with radially bolted 4-piston caliper, and a 240 mm rear disc brake that has a 2-piston floating caliper. The BMW G310R weighs 158.5 kg.
