World premiere on June 2.
The second-generation 2016 Audi A5 is due to have its world premiere in Germany on June 2, 2016. Ahead of the global event, the 5-door Sportback variant of the 2016 A5 was spied in Mumbai, Maharashtra, with almost no camouflage.
It is to be noted that Audi regularly tests its models on Indian roads prior to their global debut, as Indian road and climatic conditions prove to be a great testing ground for new models, according to former Audi India head, Mr. Michael Perschke.
Riding on the MLB Evo platform, shared with the new generation Audi A4, the 2016 A5 is expected to be around 100 kg lighter than its predecessor. On the design front, spyshots have shown the 2016 A5 to get slim, Matrix LED headlight elements, a sharp, 5-point Singleframe grille, though the overall fastback outline appears unchanged from the first generation model.
The A5 and A5 Sportback will borrow their four- and six-cylinder TFSI and TDI engines from the new A4. Like the sedan, gearbox choices will include 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmissions with the top-end variants getting the Quattro all-wheel drive technology.

In the Indian market, Audi sold the RS5 Coupe, but has since discontinued this model. Currently, the A5 range is represented with the S5 Sportback, which was launched in October 2015 for INR 62.95 lakhs, ex-Showroom.
