Volkswagen China has announced a new crossover for Auto China 2016 (2016 Beijing Motor Show) that opens on 25 April for media – the VW Beijing Concept. Sharp lines, dual headlights with dual signature LED lights that extend all the way through the upper grille, C-shaped LED daytime running lights on the front bumper, hood vents, roof bars, a very Tiguan-like profile, door mouldings and three-element LED tail lights are the key design highlights made out from the teaser images.
With VW saying that the Beijing Concept is a full-size SUV concept, there’s also a possibility it could be the new three-row crossover for China, but from what the teaser images show, it looks like it’s a 5-seat crossover and likely previews the next-gen VW Touareg. Billed as “one of the world’s most advanced full-size SUVs”, the Beijing Concept features digitalised display and control concept. The Active Info Display and infotainment system become a Curved Interaction Area as they merge under a sheet of transparent glass.
Powering the VW Beijing Concept, is a plug-in hybrid system that generates 280 kW (375 hp) and 700 Nm of torque. The electric motor(s) provide a zero emissions driving range of up to 50 km and assist the combustion engine in reducing the fuel consumption to 3.0 litres per 100 km or delivering a fuel economy of 33.33 km/l in other words. The concept crossover can reach 0-100 km/h in six seconds and hit hit a top speed of 224 km/h.
