The Tiago was launched in the Indian market on April 6, with prices starting from INR 3.2 Lakhs to 5.54 Lakhs. Here is a brief technical specification comparison of the hatchback against its chief competitors.
Both petrol and diesel variants of the Tata Tiago are the most powerful models against their respective rivals, producing 85 PS and 70 PS respectively. It is also the torquiest, pushing out 114 Nm and 140 Nm, except for the Chevrolet Beat diesel which has only a marginally higher peak torque rating of 142.5 Nm. Both the versions of the Tiago are offered with a five-speed manual gearbox at launch, and are fitted with Multi-Drive mode as standard.
As for fuel mileage, the Tata Tiago is the most fuel efficient petrol hatchback in the segment, capable of averaging an ARAI-certified fuel consumption of 23.84 km/l. The diesel variant can average an ARAI-certified 27.28 km/L, although the Maruti Celerio trumps it by a small margin (27.62 km/L).
At launch, the Tata Tiago is the least expensive hatchback in the segment, whilst offering more powerful powertrains, better fuel efficiency and more equipment. Being introductory prices, they are expected to increase later in its lifecycle.
