2017 Nissan Micra – Rendering

Will be slightly different for India.

The current, fourth generation Nissan Micra was introduced in 2010 and given a facelift in 2013. The fifth generation Nissan Micra is currently under development and Nissan is testing it in production body in Spain, as seen in recently surfaced spyshots. A speculative rendering from motor1.com gives a preview at the fully redesigned next-gen Nissan Micra in near-production guise. The design seen in the rendering is inspired by the Nissan Sway Concept show car that was introduced at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

The 2017 Nissan Micra will be based on the CMF-B platform.

The fifth generation Nissan Micra will be the second Nissan model to be based on the CMF-B platform, as the first one using this platform will be the second generation Nissan Juke that is said to arrive sometime this year. This is also an indication that the next-gen Micra will likely go on sale in 2017, not this year.

The 2017 Micra is expected to be offered with an array of petrol and diesel engines with displacements ranging from as small as 0.9-litre to as big as 1.6-litre. The small 0.9-litre unit could be the TCe 90 turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine from the Renault Clio. 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and Continuously Variable Transmission may be the transmission choices.

While the current generation Nissan Micra has been the same for both Europe and India, the next-gen Micra may be slightly different. Speaking to IAB, Shiro Nakamura, senior vice president and chief creative officer, design and brand management for Nissan Motor Company, suggested that the next-gen Micra for India may have some market-specific changes because B-segment in India is different than in Europe.

The Euro-spec 2017 Nissan Micra will be made at the company’s Flins plant in France. The domestic production at Renault-Nissan’s Alliance plant in Oragadam near Chennai will continue in fifth generation.
