Will be introduced later this year.
The current, fourth generation Land Rover Discovery (Land Rover Discovery 4/Land Rover LR4), introduced at the 2009 New York International Auto Show, is a significantly revised version of the third generation Land Rover Discovery. Going with the tradition of giving a full makeover after two generations, the British automaker will give the fifth generation Land Rover Discovery a completely new design. As development continues ahead of a debut later this year, the next-gen Land Rover Discovery has been spied testing, somewhere in Europe, by instagram user ‘inimah_u_otto_’.
The all-new 2017 Land Rover Discovery, expected to be called Land Rover Discovery 5, will feature Land Rover’s latest design language that was introduced with the Range Rover Evoque and later on incorporated in the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Land Rover previewed the Land Rover Discovery Mk5 with the Land Rover Discovery Vision concept in 2014. The new generation model will be based on the PLA (Premium Lightweight Architecture) platform, and thus, shed significant amount of weight.
The next-gen Land Rover Discovery is expected to be offered with 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol and diesel engine choices, along with 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic transmission options. An all-wheel drive system will be fitted as standard. The all-new Discovery will feature the familiar offerings from the brand’s other models, like InControl infotainment system with touchscreen colour display, surround sound system from Meridian Audio, gesture tailgate, Engine Drag Torque Control (EDC), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Traction Control System (TCS).
