Gets minor facelift to the exterior and interior.
Mercedes-Benz is showcasing the facelifted Mercedes GLS full size SUV (facelifted Mercedes GL) in its full fledged AMG GLS 63 guise at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
Formerly known as the GL, the GLS has been given an exterior update to keep it in line with the current design language. Changes are subtle but include new Multibeam headlights with LED DRLs, twin-slat chrome grille, large air intakes, revised LED tail lights and a re-profiled rear bumper. The dimensions of the GLS are 5,131 mm, 2,141 mm and 1,849 mm in length, width and height respectively. There is also comfortable seating for seven occupants with a wheelbase measured at 3,073 mm.
Moving inside, changes can be seen in the form of a newly designed instrument panel with media display, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, modified center console with an intuitive touchpad, ambient lighting, air ionization system and an optional 8-inch screen with the latest generation of COMAND infotainment system.
The Mercedes GLS is equipped with a long list of driver assistance and safety systems such as collision prevention assist plus, crosswind assist, attention assist, Pre-Safe system, Brake Assist, cruise control, electronic all-wheel drive traction system and ESP.
In international markets the GLS is powered by the familiar choice of engines that range from the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol to the fire-breathing 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 unit in the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 (featured). The GLS 350d 4MATIC, the sole diesel in the lineup, continues to be powered by the 3.0-liter V6 unit that generates 255 hp and 617 Nm of peak pulling power.
All models get the 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox with the exception of the AMG version that is still coupled to the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
