The Vitara Brezza and the Maruti S-Cross are powered by the same engine which is tuned to deliver the same power and torque in both cars. It is the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS four-cylinder diesel unit that generates 90 PS and 200 Nm. It is offered with a five-speed manual transmission in both cars. The Vitara has a higher power-to-weight ratio of 75.31 PS/tonne and mileage of 24.3 km/l while the S-Cross has lower values of 74.68 PS/tonne and 23.65 km/l.

The Hyundai Creta is the most powerful of the lot since its 1.4-litre diesel unit produces 90 PS and 220 Nm. It comes with a six-speed manual gearbox. It claims a mileage of 21.38 km/l. The Renault Duster uses the 1.5-litre four-cylinder K9K diesel engine that develops 85 PS and 200 Nm. The motor is mated to a five-speed transmission. It has the lowest mileage rating in this comparison which is 20.45 km/l.

The Vitara Brezza is priced between INR 6.99 lakhs and 9.68 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) which makes it the most affordable car in this comparison right from the entry-level variant to the range topping version. The Vitara is offered in seven trims all powered by the same diesel engine.
