Exclusiveness limited to cosmetic changes only.
The BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition features an exclusive Protonic Red body paint with Frozen Grey metallic accents that makes it immediately recognizable as a special edition.
Complementing the exclusive colour scheme are BMW W-spoke 470 light-alloy wheels finished in Orbit Grey metallic colour with hubs done in Aluminium matte colour, and mixed-size tyres (front: 215 R20, rear: 245/40).
Inside, the BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition features red double-stitching and exclusive carbon-fibre and ceramic trims. Like the exterior, the interior design is heavily influenced by LifeDrive - the first vehicle architecture to be created especially for electric cars, and BMW eDrive system.
The limited edition i8 is special only about the aforementioned features, and there are no mechanical changes made from the standard BMW i8. The plug-in hybrid powertrain makes uses of a 1.5-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 231 hp and 320 Nm of torque and an electric motor that generates 96 kW (131 hp) and 250 Nm of torque. Both sources together provide 362 hp and 570 Nm of torque. The combustion engine powers the front wheels, while the electric motor powers the rear wheels and provides a zero emissions range of 23 miles.
The BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition will enter production at BMW's Leipzig plant in Germany in July and go on sale in September in the UK for a price of £112,535 OTR.
