The current Chevrolet Sonic is getting a mid-life facelift this year. Set to be unveiled at the 2016 New York Auto Show this month, here's how the facelifted Sonic differs from the original Sonic.

LED daytime running lights will be available optionally on the facelift.

Up front, the facelifted Sonic, in both hatchback and sedan versions, features new headlamps, restyled bumper, new dual-port grille with the Golden Bowtie now positioned on the upper one, vertical foglamp housing incorporating new foglamps and a re-sculpted hood. Projector-beam headlamps are standard but LED daytime running lamps are among the options.

At the side, new 15-, 16- and 17-inch wheel designs round-up the changes. Moving to the rear, changes include new bumpers with integrated reflectors, new taillamps, new rear spoiler and new tail pipe. Four new exterior colours have been introduced: Orange Burst Metallic, Brimstone, Cajun Red Tintcoat and Arctic Blue Metallic (will become available at a later date).

Interior

Inside, the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic gains power driver's seat, keyless entry and push-button start, heated steering wheel, heated cloth seats and new 7-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration compatibility. The RS trim level features RS-logo floor mats, piano black decor, RS-badged flat-bottom steering wheel and red cloth seats.

Mechanicals

The 2017 Chevrolet Sonic remains unchanged mechanically, with the 138 hp 1.4- and 1.8-liter gasoline engines being left untouched. However, the 5-speed manual transmission standard on (MY2016) Sonic 1.8L model seems to have been dropped, with the company stating that both engines can be had with 6-speed automatic or manual transmission.

The 2017 Chevrolet Sonic will go on sale in Fall 2016.
