Euro-spec version confirmed for Turkey production.

The Toyota C-HR in production form has leaked ahead of its world premiere on 1 March at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The first official pictures that surfaced over the web earlier today, courtesy of Carscoops, fully reveal the exterior of the Euro-spec Toyota C-HR.

The Toyota C-HR will be a hybrid compact crossover targeted at the Kia Niro and the likes.

The production version, not to our surprise, is strikingly similar to the 3-door and 5-door concepts it was previewed by. The same athletic design and muscular styling has been carried over for the production version, but just with more production oriented tweaks here and there. For instance, the front door appears to have been pushed a little forward to make way for the rear door. The rear door is smartly guised, thanks to the C-pillar incorporated door handles.

Like the 5-door concept version, the production C-HR also features a dual-tone look with silver being the main colour, contrasted by black-finished grille, lower body, door mirrors and roof. The raked rear windscreen gives a very dramatic appeal to the car, especially with the roof-mounted spoiler extending over it.

The Toyota C-HR will be built in Japan and Turkey initially, and then from 2018, in China and Thailand as well.

The Toyota C-HR will be a conventional hybrid vehicle, petrol-electric most certainly. It will be the second model to be based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform after the fourth generation 2016 Toyota Prius. The Euro-spec version’s production will take place at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Turkey (TMMT) plant in Sakarya and its hybrid powertrain will be shipped there from Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK’s engine plant in Deeside, Wales.

The Japanese media were reporting last year that the Toyota C-HR will be produced in Japan as well, and be expanded to Thailand and China in 2018. Toyota already ships the Prius from Japan to North America and the same is expected with the C-HR. Now that Scion is axed, the North American version will be Toyota-badged. The Chinese production will likely be solely for the domestic market, while the Thai production would serve (other) ASEAN markets and Australia and New Zealand as well.
