The Range Rover Evoque convertible made its debut in November and has already received 500 bookings in the UK. The company calls this "incredible" as order books don't open until Spring season (March - May 2016). JLR tells the Daily Mail that a much higher proportion of interest for the Evoque convertible was from women, which is a far cry from the days when Land Rover was considered as being the preserve of macho men and country types.
The Evoque Convertible is the most premium model in the Range Rover Evoque range. The first-ever convertible Range Rover features a sophisticated fabric roof with Z-fold mechanism. While announcing the fifth Range Rover model in November, Jaguar Land Rover said that the fully-automated fabric roof is the longest and widest currently fitted to any vehicle in the market. The roof can be raised in just 21 seconds and stowed in only 18 seconds, at speeds up to 30 mph (48 km/h).
The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is 4,370 mm long, 2,085 mm wide and 1,609 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,660 mm. It's 15 mm longer than the 5-door and Coupe versions; its width is 5 mm more than the 5-door version but same as that of the Coupe version; and it sits 26 mm lower than the 5-door version but 4 mm higher than the Coupe version.
The Range Rover Evoque Convertible comes with a 2.0-litre Si4 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 177 kW (237 hp) and 340 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. With the same mechanical specifications, the Convertible version can reach 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds - 1.0 second slower than Coupe version, and hit a maximum speed of 209 km/h - 8 km/h lesser than the Coupe version.
Noteworthy features include Xenon Headlamps with LED Signature and Automatic Levelling, 18 inch 7-spoke 'Style 706' wheels with Sparkle Finish, 5-inch colour screen for driver information in instrument cluster, Oxford leather seats with 12-way electric memory for driver and passenger, InControl Touch Pro infotainment system with 10.2-inch touchscreen display, 660 W Meridian surround sound system with 12 speakers plus subwoofer and tri-colour ambient mood lighting.
