To be rebranded as ‘Genesis G80’ later this year.
Currently in its second generation, the Hyundai Genesis is the flagship Hyundai, now that the Hyundai Equus has been relocated to Hyundai Motor’s newly formed Genesis luxury brand as the Genesis G90. The rear-wheel drive luxury sedan was available only in left-hand drive originally, but received a right-hand drive version in its second generation.
Following the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, the Hyundai Genesis is the most aesthetically pleasing Hyundai sedan currently on sale. The rear-wheel drive build has benefited the car with a more premium look, shorter front overhang, a long bonnet, and as a result, the greenhouse getting pushed towards the rear-end. The South Korean rival of the Mercedes C-Class boasts a drag coefficient value of 0.26 cd.
The Hyundai Genesis is available in the following configurations* globally:-
- 3.0-litre Lambda II GDi petrol with 249 PS and 31 kg-m (304 Nm) of torque, in RWD or AWD drivetrain layout.
- 3.3-litre Lambda GDi petrol with 282 PS and 35.4 kg-m (347 Nm) of torque, in RWD drivetrain layout.
- 3.8-litre Lambda II Gdi petrol with 315 PS and 40.5 kg-m (397 Nm) of torque, in RWD or AWD drivetrain layout.
- 5.0-litre Tau GDi petrol with 413 PS and 51.5 kg-m (505 Nm) of torque, in RWD drivetrain layout.
*8-speed automatic transmission is standard.
Noteworthy exterior features of the Hyundai Genesis include LED headlamps, LED front and rear fog lamps, puddle lamps with Genesis logo, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lamps and dual twin exhaust tailpipes. Inside, there’s a 7-inch colour TFT LCD for the instrument cluster, a 9.2-inch HD display for the infotainment system, 17-speaker Lexicon sound system and a dual-monitor rear seat entertainment system.
Later this year, the Hyundai Genesis will be moved to the Genesis luxury brand as the ‘Genesis G80’. Hyundai India has imported the Genesis for private use, and has not formalized plans to sell it in the market.
