Honda has announced that the third generation 2016 Honda Pilot that was introduced at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show in February last year will soon be launched in Philippines and that the company is now accepting pre-orders for the all-new model. Based on the same monocoque platform as the Acura MDX, the third generation Honda Pilot is almost 136 kg lighter than the second generation Honda Pilot.
Available in 7- or 8-seat configuration, the 2016 Honda Pilot crossover gets its power from the Acura MDX’s 3.5-liter i-VTEC naturally aspirated petrol engine. Producing 280 hp and 262 lb.-ft. (355 Nm) of torque, the direct-injected unit sends power to the wheels via either a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The company has equipped this engine with its familiar cylinder deactivation technology called Variable Cylinder Management (VCM). The mid-size crossover is internationally available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive layouts.
Noteworthy features of the 2016 Honda Pilot include LED projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, 20-inch wheels, one-touch walk-in second-row seat, all-new Intelligent Traction Management system that offers Normal, Mud, Sand and Snow driving modes, Display Audio system with 8-inch touchscreen display, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) and Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS).
Like the previous two generation models, the third generation 2016 Honda Pilot is also designed and developed by Honda R&D Americas, Inc. at its Los Angeles design studio and Raymond, Ohio. It will be imported to Philippines from the company’s Lincoln, Alabama plant in USA.
