Fourth-gen Mitsubishi ASX to launch in 2019, compact SUV in 2017 - Report

Tetsuro Aikawa, President and Chief Operating Officer, Mitsubishi Motors, has told the Japanese media at an event this month that the successor to the Mitsubishi RVR (name used in Japan for the Mitsubishi ASX) will be launched in 2019, as per a report from response.jp.

Mitsubishi's crossover/SUV range will include six models in the future.

He said that the company's crossover/SUV range will comprise six models and three of them will be in the compact size class. Combustion engine and electrified variants will be launched.

The reason behind the delay for the next-gen ASX is that, reports say, is an all-electric variant, that has entered the fray. Some reports say that the next-gen model will have a plug-in hybrid variant, but it's yet to be known if there will be both pure-electric and plug-in hybrid variants. The all-new model will be based on the Mitsubishi eX Concept and is reported to be 4,200 mm long, 1,750 mm wide and 1,625 mm tall.

The successor to the Mitsubishi Montero (Mitsubishi Pajero/Mitsubishi Shogun) has reportedly been cancelled due to poor sales and stringent emissions norms. A new compact crossover positioned between the Mitsubishi ASX and Mitsubishi Outlander will arrive in 2017. It is reported that this model will be coupe-styled and include a plug-in hybrid variant in its range.
