First diesel vehicle in Maruti's stable to get the AMT.
Maruti is gearing up to launch the automated manual transmission (AMT) on the Maruti Swift Dzire next. Seen here are demonstration vehicles of the Swift Dzire ZDi AMT, hinting that a launch is merely days away.
The spyshots also confirm that Maruti will, for the first time, offer the AMT on a diesel-powered vehicle. The AMT on Maruti products, which extend to the Maruti Alto K10, Maruti Celerio, Maruti Wagon R and Maruti Stingray, have been offered exclusively on products with the 1.0-liter three-cylinder K-Series petrol engine. The Swift Dzire AMT will pair this transmission (expected to be supplied by Magneti Marelli) to the 1.3-liter Fiat-sourced DDiS diesel engine.
The compact sedan will squarely target the Tata Zest F-Tronic AMT (which coincidentally uses the same Fiat-sourced engine), and is expected to cost INR 50,000 more than the manual variant. Maruti is unlikely to alter the power and torque outputs of the Dzire: The diesel engine develops 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque. The fuel efficiency too, which is rated at 26.59 km/l, is unlikely to be affected with the AMT.
Other features on the ZDi variant, such as alloy wheels, electrically-adjustable and folding wing mirrors, ABS, EBD, dual front airbags, automatic climate control and a Bluetooth-enabled music system are expected to continue on the AMT variant.
