12th Kwacker in India.
India Kawasaki Motors (IKM) has launched the Kawasaki Versys 650 at INR 6.60 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It is the second model in the Versys range of Kawasakis after the Versys 1000 that was launched in January 2015. The model is offered with dual-channel ABS as a standard feature.
The company also launched the Kawasaki KLX 110 alongside the Versys 650, at INR 2.65 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The KLX 110 had already hit showrooms before the launch.
The Versys 650 shares its chassis and powertrain from the other 650 cc models in the company's lineup here, the Ninja 650 (sports tourer) and the ER6n (street fighter). The adventure tourer model is said to be imported via CKD route and locally assembled at Bajaj Auto's Akrudi plant, just like the aforementioned 650 cc models. The trio have around 30 percent of local content.
Without a direct rival, the Kawasaki Versys 650 will target the prospects of DSK Benelli TNT 600GT and the Honda CBR650F. While the Versys 650 uses an inline twin-cylinder engine, both of its indirect rivals are powered by inline four-cylinder motors. Later this year, the middle-weight adventure tourer segment will receive the DSK Benelli TRK 502 which is powered by a half-litre inline twin-cylinder engine.
