Fiat already uses classic nameplates '500', 'Tipo' and '124 Spider'.

The Fiat 500 has been a success globally since its arrival in 2007, and the recently unveiled Fiat Tipo and Fiat 124 Spider, two other resurrected names, have been well received. Another Fiat nameplate may strike a comeback this decade if a new report is to be believed.

According to a report from Passione Auto Italiane, the speculation about a car smaller than the Fiat Panda may be true. A Fiat Panda with a shorter wheelbase was spotted in Pomigliano d'Arco in Italy recently but there hasn't been any announcement from the FCA Group to enter a lower segment. The FCA Group has a plant in Pomigliano d'Arco and builds the Fiat Panda there.

Fiat sells compact and inexpensive hatchbacks Palio, Uno and the upcoming Fiat X1H, but these are reserved to the South American market. The Topolino could be the company's budget car drawn up to take on European rivals VW Up!, Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 108, and Citroen C1.

Speaking of Euro-spec hatchbacks, Fiat will introduce the Fiat Tipo Hatchback (Fiat Bravo successor) next year, probably at the Geneva Motor Show in March. As for the Fiat Panda, it will move to its fourth generation in H1 2018.
