Is based on the eighth generation.
The new Chevrolet Malibu was showcased at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. The sedan is based on the eighth-generation model and has been specially developed for the young customers of the Chinese market. Readers must note that this is not the ninth generation Malibu that was unveiled at the New York Auto Show and went on sale recently in the USA.
The exterior gets several changes that make it look more contemporary. Notable design elements are the "eagle eye" headlights and dual-element tail lights that reflect Chevrolet's "Designed to Raise your Heartbeat" design theme. The face is endowed with the signature dual-port grille and semi-framed fog lamps while the rear gets a chrome strip on the bumper and hidden exhausts.
The interior has the dual-cockpit design and a three dimensional wave-like center console with a Camaro-inspired three-spoke multi-function steering wheel. The seats are finished in Datura Purple uphostery having French dual stitching. The Malibu is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen featuring Chevrolet MyLink 2.1 infotainment system that offers sharp images and wireless connectivity with a second screen as well as Android and Apple smartphone support, Chinese voice recognition and control, and intelligent voice navigation.
The Malibu will continue with the same choice of four cylinder gasoline engines, which are a 2.4-liter Ecotec SIDI engine or a 2.0-liter DVVT engine and a 1.6-liter Ecotec turbocharged engine. The transmission is a new 6-speed automatic unit replacing the previous 5-speed gearbox.
Taking care of safety are systems like Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS) and the Brake Override System (BOS).
