According to Automobile Mag, the German manufacturer BMW will introduce the BMW 9 Series Coupe in 2020. Older reports suggested that BMW hasn't finalized the design, although it's likely to draw design inspiration from the Vision Luxury Concept.

The production-spec BMW 9 Series is reported to be a four-door, four-passenger coupe based on a long-wheelbase version of the 7 Series' CLAR platform.

It’s unclear as to why the ultra luxury coupe is rumored to be called the “9 Series” given that BMW uses odd numbers for practical, sedan-style models (3-Ser, 5-Ser, 7-Ser) and even numbers for sporty coupe models (2-Ser, 4-Ser, 6-Ser). However, they did break convention when the 2 Series Active Tourer was christened.

The production 9 Series is reported to be a four-door, four-passenger coupe based on a long-wheelbase version of the 7 Series' CLAR platform with CFRP (carbon fiber) construction. Power is likely to be sourced from the familiar 3.0-liter petrol and diesel engines, 4.4-liter V8 turbocharged unit or a hybrid powertrain.

The luxurious limousine would take on the Mercedes S-Class Coupe or the Bentley Continental GT, and it will be targeted at customers in the Middle East, China, U.S. and the UK.
