The petrol version of the Innova had a higher popularity than its diesel version in Indonesia, before the 2016 model was introduced.

Soedigdo also revealed that 55 percent of the orders were diesel variants, which is not the usual case of the MPV in Indonesia. The change in preference to the diesel version of the Innova over the petrol model is reported to be caused by the new GD engine which is said to be more refined and powerful compared to the previous KD engine.

The new Innova is touted as a more premium offering than its predecessor.

The new generation Innova is offered in 12 variants with an even split of petrol and diesel trims. The former is powered by the 2.0-litre VVT-i petrol engine and the latter uses the all-new 2.4-litre GD diesel motor. Both these engines are equipped with the VNT (Variable Nozzle Turbo) technology, and get two transmission options - a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
