In Mercedes' new trend for next generation models, the company has unveiled the interior of the 2016 Mercedes E Class first, ahead of its world debut at NAIAS 2016 in January.

The new E Class is expected in India as early as late-2016.

As seen in spyshots and digital renders, the interior design of the new Mercedes E Class combines design cues borrowed from the Mercedes S Class and C Class, yet being an evolutionary upgrade over the aging, button-infested design of the outgoing model.

The upper section of the dashboard appears to be taken from the Mercedes S Class, featuring two 12.1 inch displays for the driver and the COMAND infotainment system, four round air vents in the center, and a flowing dashboard design. The center console is inspired by the C Class, and houses sleek buttons for the climate system controls and an analogue clock.

The Mercedes E Class also comes with ambient lighting that can be adjusted in various different colors.

Mercedes has still not revealed details on the engine lineup, although reports suggest that it will be offered with a lineup of 2.0-liter four cylinder petrol and diesel engines, 3.0-liter in-line six cylinder petrol and diesel units and a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 option in the top-end AMG variant.

Following its debut in January, the 2016 Mercedes E Class is likely to make an Indian appearance towards the end of 2016. It could be introduced as a CBU model first, before being locally assembled at the company's plant in Chakan. Like the Mercedes S Class sold in India, the next E Class may not feature the company's next generation semi-autonomous features due to the government's ban on certain radar frequencies.
