Hyundai claims that the new WRC contender is faster than its predecessor, and could help the factory team secure more victories as well as establish Hyundai's new performance arm, "N" division, in motorsports. Hyundai’s rally team will involve three drivers – Dani Sordo, Hayden Paddon and Thierry Neuville.

The new i20 WRC is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre motor that is capable of delivering 300 PS. It is paired to a 6-speed race-spec sequential gearbox which transmits power to all wheels. Engineers have clocked 8000 km worth of shakedown testing to affirm its reliability in some of the mechanically-challenging rally stages.
